The Adrian Van Sinderen Poster Competition for the Book Collecting Prizes

In order to broaden interest and participation in the Van Sinderen Book Collecting Prize competition, the Van Sinderen Committee is requesting design proposal submissions from undergraduate graphic designers for a poster announcing this annual prize.

Deadline for submission of poster design proposals:
5 pm, Tuesday, October 24, 2017

Submissions should be addressed to Rebecca Martz and dropped off (clearly labeled on the reverse with the designer’s name and contact information) at the Office of the University Printer, 2 Whitney Avenue, Suite 203. Please note that e-mailed submissions are not accepted.

Poster proposals must be printed out or ‘handmade’ (collage or letterpress for instance), and all submissions, other than those intended to be rendered by letterpress, must be readily reproducible by color laserwriter or ink-jet processes.

Poster proposals should be submitted full-sized in two formats: large (maximum 11 x 17 inches, vertical or horizontal) to be used in residential college posting areas; and small (8.5 x 11 inches, vertical) for posting on campus outdoor bulletin boards.

If your submission is chosen, you will be asked to meet with the University Printer, and you may be asked to make minor text and design changes to your work. You will be expected to oversee production at Yale Printing & Publishing Services (or in your College letterpress shop, if that option applies). You should plan to be available to oversee production and to meet the production deadline of Thursday, November 10, 2016.

A prize of $500 will be awarded to the selected entry, plus costs of poster production. The committee reserves the right, however, to decide not to award a prize in the event that none of the entries seems suitable to the competition’s objectives.

Please feel free to contact Rebeccca Martz (, 203-432-6990) or John Gambell (, 203-432-6531) with questions.

Finalists are required to show a selection of their personally collected books.

Application forms are available online or at your Head of College’s Office.
